SQUANTUM, MA — At an abandoned Naval Air Station T Ford Co Inc. (TFCI) constructed a 25 acre passive recreation facility. The construction features included acres of wildflower meadows, walking paths, fieldstone walls and interpretive markers depicting the aviation history of the land. The project was a mitigation measure for construction of a 115kV underground power distribution cable through the state owned property. One feature of the project which required careful planning and execution was a cast in place concrete plaza with stadium type seating extending into the ocean. TFCI designed and installed a temporary sheet pile cofferdam and dewatering system. The system performed successfully including during several storm events. Specifications for cast in place concrete were very tight due to salt water exposure and required high QA on concrete placement and curing.

Another critical issue on the project was the execution of the work as part of and public/private collaboration. In addition to meeting the requirements of our private client we coordinated the work fully with the public agency which manages the facility.
