Newport MPG Cap - MGP Site Remediation - Former MGP Cap and Restoration
Client: Private Client
Location: Newport, RI
Project Description: TFCI was the general contractor for the site remediation and full-scale landscape restoration at a resort facility in Rhode Island. Approximately 3,000 cubic yards of former manufactured gas plant residuals were excavated and disposed of and TFCI installed a geosynthetic capillary barrier and backfill materials to complete the capping work. Since the site consisted of work areas within the grounds, adjacent to, and even beneath the active resort facility, special attention was maintained towards safety and monitoring, and specialized equipment was used to minimize facility impacts.
As awarded, the project was to be completed in four distinct phases over a two-year autumn-only construction window. However, TFCI accelerated the schedule and completed the work within a single construction window; much of which was performed adjacent to the ocean during a harsh winter. The extensive landscape restoration tasks included sod installation, trees and shrubs, retaining walls and pavers, curbing, site amenities, and articulated block installation.
